A few years ago I was on a flight from Ft. Lauderdale to Atlanta. As the flight attendants walked the isles, they were giving out coupons for a free RoadyXT XM Radio when you signed up for the service. I thought to myself that I might as well since the service is fairly cheap and I get a free radio too.

XM has been great over the last few years. But as time has gone by, I haven't been listening to it as much lately. I would get really perturbed when I would start hearing commercials on some of the channels. And one of the worst things is that they can beam advertisements and 1-800 numbers to your display as well.

So I decided to cancel it after the realization that I have been paying ~$12 / month for something that I was not using. I called them up to cancel and right off the bat the rep offered me a generous 50% discount if I bought a year or 6 months of service. I wasn't in the mood to spend more money so I graciously declined.

Next, to keep me on board, he offered me 3 months of free service, and regular billing would continue afterwards. I decided to go for it and just cancel later.
